The Mind-Skin Connection: My Journey to Creating Something Different
Hi, I’m Fifi Job!
Growing up with Keratosis Pilaris, a skin condition affecting nearly 40% of adults, I constantly felt self-conscious. What began as a few rough patches on the back of my shoulders and legs turned into years of anxiety, diminished self-esteem, and a loss of confidence, especially during my teenage years.
It was more than just skin deep—this condition impacted my mental well-being and intimate relationships in ways I never anticipated.
I often wished for a space where I could find support, both for my skin and my mind, they were either too unaffordable or unaccessible. For years, I struggled to manage how I felt about my appearance, but everything changed when I sought therapy and embraced a holistic approach to my skin health.
It wasn’t an overnight transformation, but with time, I not only healed emotionally but found the strength and confidence to pursue my childhood dream—competing in pageantry. Today, I’m proud to hold the title of Miss Continental UK 2024 'sponsor’s favourite' prize and brand ambassador to Spa Ved, an award-winning UK Sensitive Skincare brand.
This personal victory made me realize the power of self-acceptance and mental health care in overcoming the challenges of visible skin conditions.
As a mental health worker, I’ve seen first hand how clients grapple with the psychological toll of various skin issues, so combined with my professional and personal experience I was deeply inspired to create Butterfly Wellness, the UK's First Virtual Psychodermatology Clinic, dedicated to helping children, adults, and the elderly manage the mental health effects of skin disorders, diseases or disfigurement.
Through our services, we aim to provide the same holistic support that allowed me to thrive, so others can feel confident and in control of their well-being.
At Butterfly Wellness, we’re committed to breaking the stigma, offering compassionate care, and improving the quality of life for those facing the unique mind-skin connection challenges.
